In Observance of U.S. holiday, Memorial Day, Agilent Cross Lab/ iLab Operations Software will be closed during U.S. hours on Monday May 28th, 2018. EU and APAC support coverage will remain open during this time. We will resume U.S. support hours on Tuesday May 29th, 2018. For urgent matters, please add "Urgent" to the ticket subject and we will prioritize those requests first.

Overview of Services

The facility provides microarray-based global analysis of gene expression in human, mice, and rats, using an Illumina platform.  Starting with investigator RNA samples, the facility confirms RNA quality, and then performs microarray analysis as well as initial data analysis.  Array data are returned to the investigator, and if desired, also passed on to the Informatics and Data Management facility for more detailed analysis.  Both mRNA and miRNA profiling are available.  Quantitative real-time PCR (Q-PCR) service is predominantly SYBR green-based analysis, but hybridization probe (e.g. TaqMan) approaches are supported.  Starting with RNA, the facility will utilize primers from investigators, or design custom primers and perform Q-PCR.   The facility provides control primers and assists with experimental design, as well as providing basic relative quantitation analysis. Q-PCR analysis in the facility can also provide gene, RNA, or viral copy number data.

Microarray Request

In a typical experiment, a user would bring between 100 ng - 500 ng of total RNA for each array assay, and within about one week, receive analyzed expression data for 24,000-48,000 human or mouse genes. The IDM Shared Resource will assist with follow-up bioinformatic analysis, and interesting regulated gene targets can be rapidly validated by real-time PCR using the Q-PCR service.

Q-PCR Request

A user can bring several gene names or accession numbers and a few micrograms of total RNA for each sample to the Facility, and usually receive initial quantitative expression data within several days. Publication-ready quantitative analysis with sufficient replicates can often be obtained within a week. In addition to relative gene expression analysis, Q-PCR analysis in the Facility can also provide gene, RNA, or viral copy number data.
